THE ENEMY WITHIN

While smug and complacent Australians, many of them unfortunately leading business and professional men, attempt to justify their inertia concerning Communism by claiming that the Communists are too small in numbers to constitute a serious problem inside Australia, the Communist conspiracy intensifies its programme for subverting Australia from within. The propaganda weapon is confusing many good Australians.

Last week in Sydney, the general secretary of the Milk and Ice Carters' Union, Mr. R. Rickard, said that two Viet Cong propaganda films he brought back from North Vietnam last December, had already been shown at 100 meetings in Sydney. The films are now being shown in Melbourne. One of the films, purporting to show life in the Viet Cong dominated areas of South Vietnam, was made by Australian Communist journalist, Wilfred Burchett.

At this critical time the Communists are not primarily concerned with gaining large numbers of recruits to their ranks; their principal campaign is to create confusion and doubt in every Western nation about South-East Asia. The role of teachers generally, and the Universities in particular, is of special significance. The national will to resist is being progressively undermined. The external offensive cannot be defeated unless the "enemy within" is exposed and effectively opposed.

A BEFUDDLED CLERIC

Under the heading "Mao Has Given the Churches a Lesson," The Australian 25th June, reported the remarks of Dr. E.F. Carpenter given in an address to Sydney University students. Dr. Carpenter is the Archdeacon of Westminster visiting Australia to give us the benefit of his wisdom and advice. Dr. Carpenter is a member of the "new morality" school of thought advocated by John Robinson the Bishop of Woolwich.

The Doctor was reported as saying: "If he were in China today he would almost certainly be caught up in Communism."

Judging by his later remarks we have no doubt at all that he would. He was utterly opposed to the concept of complete conflict - "Christ or Communism". His admiration of China stemmed from the view that "Communism there, is the one dynamic force which is solving social problems." If forced labour, collective farming - so efficient they are forced to import increasing quantities of grain from the West - enforced indoctrination through Communist schooling, is the Doctor's idea of solving social problems then he is far removed from the social teaching of Jesus Christ. Christ taught the simple uncompromising doctrine of "Seek Ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these shall be added unto you."

Lenin taught that "Communism will never succeed until the myth God is removed from the mind of Man." Jesus taught "You cannot serve God and mammon." It is obvious which god - even mistakenly - the Archdeacon is serving.

A pointer as to why may be found in the philosophic roots which spawns the advocates of the "new morality school". John Robinson is a member of the Fabian Society and the Labour Party. The Fabians through their subversion of the educational system have done more damage to the moral and spiritual fibre of the English speaking peoples than any other group.

PRESIDENT JOHNSON & VIETNAM

We have from time to time reported our concern over the nature of the role being played by U.S. forces in Vietnam. We expressed our fear that like the Korean war and the fight against Communist invasion of China, victory over Communism was not the aim. President Johnson under pressure from a more enlightened Senate than his predecessors has certainly committed more troops to the Vietnamese struggle than would have been expected from his election platform. Whether this aroused and growing group can be fooled by a token gesture remains to be seen, but the speech of Mr. Johnson to the 20th birthday conference of the U.N.O. contained a passage which runs truer to the Johnson form.

"Where the United Nations requires readily available peace forces in hours and days not weeks or months let us all pledge to provide those forces. My country is ready."

The handing over of American forces to this uncontrollable Socialist agency would be a disaster of the first magnitude. It would remove the last hope of the captive peoples of the world for liberation in their lifetime. We in Australia have a life or death interest in this proposal.

COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE POST MORTEM

The published statement of the motions passed at the London P.M.'s Conference reflects a further surrender to the socialists. A mockery was made of this traditional family conference by its assumption of a critical and directive role. The forces seeking to destroy the only successful example of International co-operation can list the following score. The meeting pledged its support and loyalty to the subversive U.N. organisation and misrepresented it as a "peace-keeping" force.

Portugal and South Africa were criticised over their policies which are among the few in Africa halting the advance of Communist subversion. No Communist government received an unfavourable mention in the report. Rhodesia's internal affairs were condemned and British interference urged to force the capitulation of Mr. Ian Smith who has the unprecedented backing of almost the entire white population, added to which is the loyalty of the tribal Chiefs who speak for by far the greater part of the native population.

Britain was asked, in the event of their refusal to surrender to policies which have produced chaos throughout most of Africa to suspend the 1961 constitution and appoint an interim government. The conference set up a Commonwealth Secretariat with so far unrevealed powers under the socialist nominee Mr. Arnold Smith of Canada. He has intimated his intention of fully using any directive powers granted to this U.N. type body.

No doubt in the minds of the socialists the Secretariat will assume the role of a board of managers of the Colonial Empire, with particular power to direct how the "Haves" will aid the "have-nots". The latter being assured of all aid and no responsibility.

Australian patriots should work to make the Secretariat reflect realities. Those countries of the Commonwealth which by nature of their ability to make a greater contribution should be given a greater say in the control of the Secretariat and the policies pursued there from.

ALGERIAN REVOLT

There is a modern aphorism which says, if it looks like a duck, behaves like a duck, quacks like a duck, and mixes with ducks, one is justified in assuming that it is a duck. Application of this principle cuts through the verbal confusion with which the "liberal" leftist surrounds the person of the many dictators who have been spawned on the modern scene: Ignorance of it enabled Mao Tse Tung, Castro, Sukarno and many more web footed members of the Communist flock to be labelled as "agrarian reformers", "democratic liberators", "nationalist religionists", or some such euphemism.
Ben Bella of Algeria, deposed this week in a bloodless revolt was one such Soviet quacker.

The fact that the revolt was without bloodshed after the orgy of bloodletting by this great liberator and his F.L.N. terrorists is sufficient to indicate there is something phoney. It is conceivable that Ben Bella was betrayed from inside by those who sought his power and influence. The reality of the Algerian business is that General De Gaulle was elected to office to preserve this threatened French province. After gaining power he betrayed the loyal French Algerians and Moslems to the Communists. To do it he destroyed the French army in Algeria which was a leading force in having him elected.
Subsequently, Americans, who always hail the destruction of "Colonies", were put to work to provide large volumes of aid to strengthen and preserve Ben Bella's unpopular tyranny.

Increasing evidence of his alignments and aims eventually awakened a sizable body of loyal American opposition to continuance of this support. The truth-evident from early on to those with the desire to learn - was breaking through the sophistry.

With this weeks lightning coup by the army chief Colonel Houari Boumedienne, the way is however open to further deception. However the immediate recognition of the new regime by Communist China, quickly followed by the Wilson government in Britain indicates the nature of the Colonel's allegiance.

We predict that as in Russia with the dismissal of Khruschev, we are merely seeing installed fresh branch managers of the same old firm. To the credit of our own government, judgment and recognition has been deferred until the situation becomes clearer.
