MR. ERIC BUTLER'S DRAMATIC RHODESIAN PROJECT

At very short notice League of Rights National Director, Mr. Eric Butler, left for Rhodesia early last week. He returned this week, bringing with him the most up to the minute and authoritative report available on the Rhodesian situation. Mr. Butler conferred with Security authorities in South Africa on his way through South Africa. Discussions with Rhodesian Security convinced Mr. Butler that the internal situation in Rhodesia is stable and well under control.
Propaganda from Zambia is having little effect on the Rhodesian natives, the overwhelming majority of whom support the Smith Government.

During his action packed visit to Rhodesia, Mr. Butler had a private discussion with Mr. Clifford Dupont, Officer at present administering the Government, and almost certain to be appointed Regent as the Smith Government continues to maintain its loyalty to the Crown. Mr. Butler also had a private discussion with the Prime Minister, Mr. Ian Smith, before an exclusive interview for the next issue of "International News Review". Mr. Butler reports that Mr. Smith is firmly in control of the situation, providing sober and balanced leadership for a community solidly behind him.

He stresses that the international campaign of vilification against Rhodesia is a frightening example of international subversion, and that incredibly false stories and photos have been circulated right throughout the world. The League of Rights has received a report from Rhodesia stating that Mr. Butler's visit had a tremendous impact on Rhodesian morale. In a TV appearance and two radio interviews, Mr. Butler told Rhodesians that they had an increasing number of friends around the world who realized that they were holding the front line against the International Communist advance in Africa.

Apart from meeting a number of Cabinet Ministers, Mr. Butler addressed a private meeting at which many backbench Members were present. A packed meeting, arranged at a short notice by private invitation only, gave Mr. Butler a standing ovation after an address in which he said the anti-Communists had to organise internationally, and to stand together, in the face of Communism's global strategy. Mr. Butler's address was taped for distribution right throughout Rhodesia. League of Rights literature is also circulating widely in Rhodesia.

There are other aspects of Mr. Butler's visit to Rhodesia, which we cannot comment upon at present, but which we are confident will become clear with developments next year. We can say, however, that they were sufficiently important for Mr. Butler to make his visit. As a result of currency restrictions, Rhodesians are not able at present to make a contribution towards Mr. Butler's visit. Portion of the expenses will be met by payments from articles on Rhodesia by Mr. Butler. Many supporters have also contributed. No doubt others would also like to contribute to help finance a project of major significance against the International Communist conspiracy. U.S.A. INVESTIGATION COMMITTEES AID COMMUNISTS

Two "investigation" committees have been set up by the Johnson administration in the U.S.A.
(1) The Warren Commission to investigate the murder of President Kennedy.
(2) The commission under former CIA chief John McCone to seek reasons for the Los Angeles riots.

Despite clear evidence that Presidential murderer Oswald was intimately connected with the Communist conspiratorial apparatus, Earl Warren returned a finding that the murder was the work of a "loner", a "misfit", unconnected with this group. Similarly the McCone commission is reported this week to have found the highly organised Los Angeles terrorist riots "a formless quite senseless expression of deep economic and social frustration."

This is quite at variance with first hand reports of communist activity during these riots. These are not the first times that both the communist idol, Chief Justice Earl Warren or the CIA under McCone have assisted Communist strategic policy. The role of the CIA in the Cuban surrender to Castro in the years 1957 to 1959 and in staging the betrayal of anti-Communist Cubans into the hands of Castro, the Kennedy's Bay of Pigs invasion of 1961 was adequately exposed in the reports of the US Senate Internal Security Subcommittee. Chief Justice Warren is cited in the U.S. Congressional Record as giving a pro communist line decision 62 times out of the 65 cases involving communists and subversive activities on which he sat from 1953 to 1961. The failure by the two committees to find organised Communist activity behind the death of President Kennedy, and the Los Angeles riots is not therefore unexpected.

THE AUSTRALIAN LABOUR PARTY and RHODESIA

Mr. Eric D. Butler the National Director of the Australian League of Rights was reported in The Australian that the Rhodesian Prime Minister Mr. Smith was the most loyal Prime Minister to the Crown in the British Commonwealth. Mr. Butler was being interviewed by the press on his return from a Trip to Rhodesia.
Measured in terms of opposition to the policies of International Communism with the will to take a positive stand, there is no doubt about the correctness of Mr. Butler's statement.

As we commented last week, by their compromise leading to outright opposition both Mr. Holyoake and Sir Robert Gordon Menzies have placed themselves directly in the camp of the International Socialists. The strength this policy has given to the socialists is measured by the acclaim it has received from the leftwing of the Australian Labour Party.

Dr. Jim Cairns during the debate in Federal Parliament on Rhodesia said he had to congratulate the government on their policy of imposing sanctions on Rhodesia. This policy was also acclaimed by Mr. Calwell. However they both do not believe the Government's policy went far enough, as these two "peace loving" advocates who have been violently opposed to intervention in the Vietnam war are reported on Saturday December 11th as regretting the Prime Minister condemnation of the use of force in Rhodesia. They left no doubt that they favoured military intervention against Rhodesia if sanctions did not bring the Rhodesians to destruction. This apparent paradox is explainable by the fact that intervention in Vietnam is hindering a Communist coup, which it may be necessary to ensure on in Rhodesia.

The fact that Mr. Calwell and Dr. Cairns lean towards the bellicose proven Communist liar Ho Chi Minh (who stands for the destruction of the Commonwealth) and are hostile towards Prime Minister Ian Smith (who seeks to maintain the traditional values which built the Commonwealth) whom even his critics concede is a man of honesty and integrity; shows the sorry state of the Australian Labour Party.

That these spokesman for a large and fundamentally decent section of the Australian community, but who in reality do not speak for them but for a foreign ideology should label Ian Smith and his Government as rebels is a distressing sample of the double standard and double speak we are so familiar with today.
