18 October 2002. Thought for the Week:
"Many of the predictions made by George Orwell in his book
1984 in relation to "Big Brother" surveillance, corruption
of language and control of history have already come about
to a great extent in Communist countries and to some extent
in the West. The powers of security police in Western countries
to intercept mail and tap phones have often been extended,
police agencies keep numerous files on law-abiding citizens,
and more and more public officials have the right to enter
private homes without a warrant. Many government departments
keep computerized information on citizens and there is a danger
that this information will be fed into a centralized data
bank.
Attempts by law enforcement agencies to obtain more information through informer schemes, through new law enforcement agencies, and through new techniques such as computerization of information, are understandable, but the cumulative effect of such big brother activities is to make countries such as the United States, Britain and Australia increasingly totalitarian societies." PALESTINE is ISRAEL JORDAN is PALESTINE IRAQ is THE HASHEMITE KINGDOMfrom MID-EAST REALITIES MER www.MiddleEast Org Washington, 10/01/02"At this point the two Jewish experts, eventually to become key Pentagon players, are walking a fine line between their loyalty to American governments (including the Reagan administration, in which Perle played a key role) and Israeli interests." It's not a Zionist Congress meeting a hundred years ago. Nor is this the era of the Paris Peace Conference that infamous "Peace to End all Peace" in 1919. Rather, these revelations that follow are the previously closed-door hypothesized wished-for concepts of the hardest of the Israeli-Jewish lobby tough-guys as they have planned over the years to remake the Middle East in their joint Israeli-US imagery... if only they could. And now, through a quirk of American history helped out by the Supreme Court, and a time in world history resulting from the aftermath of "9/11", these guys are actually in charge .. dare we draw a partial and muted analogy to how another party of ideological zealots in the 1930s took over a powerful European country and exploded the world in war? And now, as the 21st century gets rolling, these are the very people in charge of the biggest military machine in history headquartered at the Pentagon and the most powerful Empire since Rome headquartered in Washington. |
PERLES OF WINDOM FOR THE FEITHFUL(after Richard Perle & Douglas Feith
Editor) by Akiva Eldar (Ha'aretz, October 1st, 2001) A few weeks ago, Richard Perle invited the Pentagon chiefs to a meeting with researchers from a Washington think tank with particularly close relations with the Defense Department. According to information that reached a former top official in the Israeli security services, the researchers showed two slides to the Pentagon officials. The first was a depiction of the three goals in the war on terror and the democratization of the Middle East. Iraq a tactical goal, Saudi Arabia a strategic goal, and Egypt the great prize. The triangle in the next slide was no
less interesting: Palestine is Israel, Jordan is Palestine,
and Iraq is the Hashemite Kingdom. Redefining Iraq The new partnership drawn up by Perle, Feith and five other researchers, has interests in all sorts of directions in the region. "Jordan has challenged Syria's regional ambitions recently by suggesting the restoration of the Hashemites in Iraq," the group writes. "Since Iraq's future could affect the strategic balance in the Middle East profoundly, it would be understandable that Israel has an interest in supporting the Hashemites in their efforts to redefine Iraq, including such measures as: visiting Jordan as the first official state visit, even before a visit to the United States, of the new Netanyahu government; supporting King Hussein by providing him with some tangible security measures to protect his regime against Syrian subversion; encouraging through influence in the US business community investment in Jordan to shift structurally Jordan's economy away from dependence on Iraq; and diverting Syria's attention by using Lebanese opposition elements to destabilize Syrian control of Lebanon." The experts advised Netanyahu to pull Turkey into the brew, with diplomatic, military, and operational support for Turkish actions against Syria. They say that "Israel can shape its strategic environment in co-operation with Turkey and Jordan, by weakening, containing, and even rolling back Syria. This effort can focus on removing Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq an important Israeli strategic objective in its own right as a means of foiling Syria's regional ambitions". One way to do it Quote Peace Unquote "To remove a significant lever of pressure used against it in the past," Perle and Feith recommend the new prime minister declare on his first visit to Washington that Israel "is now mature enough to cut itself free immediately from US economic aid and loan guarantees at least, which prevent economic reform." Indeed, Netanyahu did use the occasion of his first visit to Washington as prime minister to announce a gradual reduction of civilian aid and turning some of it into defense aid. The experts believe that way Israel will improve its co-operation with the US against genuine threats to the region and Western security. The position paper, which includes sections marked like crib sheets with "TEXT" for Netanyahu to use in his speeches, proposes some tactical methods the Israeli prime minister can use to foresee US reactions and how to manage them. They give Netanyahu tips on how to manoeuvre congressmen, for example. They say Netanyahu should phrase his policies and emphasize those issues important to him in a language familiar to Americans and to use terms that occupied the attention of the American administrations during the Cold War and are relevant to Israel. They even recommend the timing for "winning American support" before the November 1996 elections. The document's writers propose Netanyahu press for co-operation on anti-ballistic missile defense, because "it would broaden Israel's base of support among many in the United States Congress who may know little about Israel, but care very much about missile defense". Such broad support could be helpful in the effort to move the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, a subject that interest many in Congress, "including those who know very little about Israel". And how does all this fit into the concept
of the peace process, which was then facing one of its darker
periods? The term 'peace process'; appears in quotes in the
document. So does the phrase 'new Middle East', which, said
Perle, Feith, et al "undermines the legitimacy of the nation
and leads Israel into strategic paralysis. |
ADOPTION OF 'THE THIRD WAY' BY THE FABIAN SOCIALISTSIn the following article (from Neil Baird's
e-mail), Graham Strachan refers to "the Third Way marriage
of capitalist greed and the socialist control fetish". The
article is most timely. Readers need to know the term The
Third Way, was used by the early Catholic-Distributist-Social-Credit-Movement
to show there was a way other than the Greed of Capitalism
and/or the Socialist Tyranny the Social Credit way. Neither Capitalism nor Fabian Socialism will have a bar of Social Credit, because, as Mr. Strachan correctly states, "Both crave control the one of markets, the other of people." Social Credit seeks to set people free; it seeks to have the systems serve the people, not control them, as at present. Distributist-Social Crediter Anthony Cooney deals with those early days in the books listed in this week's Bulletin. He retrieves some early 20th century history that had been 'swept down the memory hole'. He reveals the response of such early Fabian Socialists as Sidney and Beatrice Webb and George Bernard Shaw to the Social Credit proposals. The books are 'hot off the press' and were launched along with Michael Lane's books at the National Weekend. They are a must read...ed. |
FEEDING THE CONTROL FETISHby Graham Strachan The Third Way marriage of capitalist greed and the socialist control fetish finds a natural expression in the field of surveillance technology. The globalist Right develops the means, the globalist Left provides the opportunities. Both crave control the one of markets, the other of people. In Queensland (Australia) satellite technology is used to detect unlicensed dams on farms; surveillance cameras are now commonplace in city malls; there are red light cameras at traffic lights, speed cameras along highways, surveillance cameras in factories, and now spy cameras are to be set up in Brisbane bushland as part of a city council plan to clamp down on the illegal dumping of rubbish [Courier Mail, October 7th, 2002]. A special team of council officers has been established to 'monitor' the cameras, 'investigate' reports of unauthorised dumping and 'issue' fines to dumpers. A 12-month trial of the scheme successfully identified 'key hotspots' of dumping across Brisbane. More than 85 fines totalling $50,000 were issued during the trial. Like the speed camera, there is obviously revenue in rubbish cameras. Delighted with his success in finding yet another way to spy on, prosecute and fine the general public, Lord Mayor Jim Soorley is already planning to expand the scheme. Imagine the other wrongdoers he can snare with the cameras:- people walking dogs without leads, riding bicycles without helmets, pushing babies in strollers without seat belts, skateboarding or horse-riding in a prohibited area, having a picnic without a permit, and having sex without a condom. The next step will be to attach hi-tech sound detection devices to the cameras to monitor the conversations of joggers, searching for expressions of political incorrectness. The global capitalists already have just the product. There used to be a song that went, "If you go down in the woods today you'd better go in disguise." I'd recommend it. And don't raise your voice above a whisper, at least until whispering becomes an offence too. In the mind of the control fetishist, anybody whispering must be up to something. WOLVES IN SHEEP'S CLOTHINGby Matthew Reimer "At no other time in the brief history of the United States has the Democratic Party posed such a threat to American political ideals. The danger lies not necessarily in the actions of the party but in the beliefs that people hold about them. The idea that the Democrats represent the "opposition party" is both laughable and depressing. Someone recently told me that they joined the Democrats because of their commitment to human rights and social justice. I almost spit my beer in their face. Wake up all you lovers of partisan politics, all you believers in the American political process. The dream is over. The American experiment is winding to a catastrophic end at the dawn of the 21st century. You know whom I'm talking about. All of you who, while holding back a sob or two, proudly utter the phrase, "President Gore". All of you who mope about the "stolen election" while fantasizing about how much better things would be if Bush weren't in office. All of you who rant on about the ills of the world, frequently invoking terms like "right-wing", "conservative", and "fundamentalist", only then to turn around and defend people like Bill Clinton and Al Gore. You've all been had. To believe in the Democrats while condemning
the Republicans is the ultimate folly committable in these
times. To defend them is to betray the very values one implicitly
claims to uphold when criticizing the Republicans. People's persistent belief that there
is a genuine difference between the two parties is symptomatic
of a greater and fundamental misunderstanding of the word
'debate' itself. Americans wouldn't know a "debate" if one
kicked them in the crotch. Shall we go to war in October or
November? Shall we begin the war with elite ground forces
or an aerial bombardment? Give me a break. |
THE CAPITAL OF GLOBAL ARROGANCEfrom www.MiddleEast.Org In 1997 www.MiddleEast.Org wrote: |
AMERICA THE BRUTAL, AMERICA THE UGLY, MER EDITORIALOnce again the American Empire prepares for 'battle.' It does so against a puny enemy; but one it vilifies and magnifies many times over endlessly 'preparing' public opinion for the Empire's next round of 'enforcement' in the name of 'peace' and 'order'. It does so with technological super weaponry unmatchable by the poor, the weak, the oppressed... other than through what it terms 'terrorism' that is. This is the same country that slaughtered millions of Vietnamese (plus less directly millions of Cambodians and Laotians as well) after its President tricked its Congress into the Gulf of Tonkin resolution. And then a generation later its top warrior of the former day 'apologized' for having made a 'terrible mistake' (noting primarily the 50,000 Americans killed). This is the same country that used the first nuclear weapons of mass destruction not on military targets, but on civilian cities. And now today, along with ally Israel, this is the same country that threatens to use them again in the Middle East, thus fuelling the very arms race it claims to be halting. This is the same country that sells more arms internationally than all others, yet insists on sanctions against those who sell a few inferior weapons to 'unapproved' locations. This is the same country that single-handedly, against the opposition of all others, dismisses UN Secretary-Generals; issues its 'orders' far and wide; and doesn't even pay its UN dues preferring threats and blackmail to gets its way. Amazing indeed that the rest of the world continues to allow this demeaning situation to continue; but bribery and threats always have gone a long way when Rome thunders. And, finally for now, this is the same
country that stands alone in the world:- championing Israeli
militancy, camouflaging Israeli ethnic-cleansing policies,
covering-up terrible Israeli attacks on UN safe-havens, constantly
excusing Israeli gross violations of human rights against
those who simply ask to be accorded the same rights that the
Americans themselves constantly proclaim! Ah to be a Roman nearing the 21st Century! The Pro-consuls are now in the form of 'client regimes' calling themselves Kings, Guardians, and even Presidents. Centurion legions are now in the form of giant aircraft carriers and stealth bombers roaming the planet at will, dropping their laser-guided smart-bombs on command. With the ever-present ears of the National Security Agency and eyes of the Central Intelligence Agency modern-day Rome tries to bug, manipulate, and control everything and everyone even while constantly proclaiming its own innocence, bravery and freedom. Even the giant American press institutions fan the flames of warfare and deception in this brave new American order. Even its senior 'journalists' of late Sam Donaldson and George Stephanopoulos openly join the generals in advocating the assassination of foreign leaders and destruction of resisting societies. Its President and Secretary of State seem completely oblivious to the genocidal misery they reap on millions who will not bend to their will. Most of its intellectuals are cowered into submission: And even most of its intellectuals and academics are cowered into submission while government-supported institutes and think-tanks, along with minions of masked agents of the empire, spread deception and chicanery far and wide to justify what has already been, and what is now to come. The American-hyped road signs all proclaim 'Peace Process' and 'Democracy', 'Freedom' and 'Progress'. But this US/Israeli-created road actually leads to more terrorism, more warfare, more armaments; more repression, more duplicity, more hatred; more exploitation, more domination, and more control. The level of hypocrisy and the self-enrichment motivations are so omni-present these days that few within the Empire seem able to see clearly through their own society's thick rhetorical and bureaucratic smoke screens. Yet no wonder there are so many around the rest of the world who now think so much about payback time. |
