"A man of peace is dying. Let us all pray for his quick recovery. A man that was just about to rejuvenate the Israeli political world, redeem for us all the Zionist state and its racist agenda. A peaceful man is on his way to meet his Creator. The Lord may ask him, just as he enters the gate of heaven, "Hey Grandpa Arik, why are your hands so red?" Sometimes the Dear Lord pretends to be ignorant; he loves to give his chosen followers a chance to repent. Somehow, they tend to forget to do so while they are still amongst the living. But Grandpa Arik is not that silly, the Dear Lord isn't going to fool him that easily. "What red, what blood? This is me painting your land in my favourite colour, I thought you'd like it". Grandpa Arik winks to the Lord. The Lord is left cold, unaffected.
For more than a while, he seems to have been perplexed by the conduct of his chosen followers.

Meanwhile, down on earth, the Israelites are praying for a new saviour, a new man of peace, a merciless general with a long-term agenda. A term that is so long that no one can ever see where it leads. The Israelites do not like to see a light in the end of the tunnel because it means that they live in a tunnel. No, it isn't easy to find a replacement for Grandpa. Indeed, as far as filling his shoes goes, the task seems slightly easier, but as far as the waistcoat is concerned, the mission is almost impossible. The whole of the Israelites can fit in. The whole of the Hebraic nation wants to wrap itself up in Grandpa Arik's flak jacket. It is warm in the winter and it provides shadow in the summer. Somehow, it worked for him for many years. Nothing really touched him, nothing really stacked against the man; not the Qibya massacre, not Sabra and Shatila, not the death toll of thousands of Palestinian and Israeli civilians that took place under his direct command. Not even the bizarre death of his first wife and his son. Grandpa has managed to get away with everything. On Earth.

Grandpa was the last and the best of his kind. He was a devoted Jewish Nationalist. For him peace wasn't an end but rather a tactic. Arik was the last Hebraic warrior, he was the very last Israelite knight. All his followers are merely professional soldiers. They can kill if needed but they do not prefer to bathe in blood. They are spoiled. Thank you peace loving old man for teaching us what the Israelites are all about. Thank you peace loving old man for taking leave of us. Thank you especially for teaching us what Israelis love to love. I'VE BEEN A COP FOR 17 YEARS - AND I'M AFRAID

This open letter, from an anonymous police officer, was distributed to locals in Cronulla, NSW the local scene of the recent race riots. It was reprinted in Brisbane's Sunday Mail, 18/12/05.

"I am a New South Wales police officer with 17 years' experience and I tell you that I am scared. I am scared to do my job and I don't blame the community for taking the law into their own hands. In the late '80s when I joined the police force, I saw how the old-school police did things. I agree there was corruption and things had to change, but what the Government, judicial system and ultimately society did to the police force was just disgraceful.

In days gone by, if there was a group of hoodlums hanging around intimidating people, two burly 190cm coppers would turn up in a big F100 truck. The way they spoke, their stature, respect and how they dealt with these hoodlums gave them real power - not some weak piece of legislation given to them by some reactionary government. If' these hoodlums hadn't already run off because they knew what was coming, they would cop a flogging. The kids were afraid of the police and that's how we controlled and protected the community.

Fear is the only thing a young male understands. That real power is now lost forever. Let's look at how the new police force would handle the same job: Firstly, we changed our name to a "service" because it was aggressive to use the word "force". We send two small female officers, wearing silly little yellow caps. If we want to move these thugs out of the area, we have a very strict procedure we must follow. We have to announce our name and place of duty. The thug laughs and starts calling us by our first name. We have to tell them why they have to move on. We have to warn them that if they fail to move on, they may be arrested. If there is more than one thug, we have to do this to each one. They tell us they don't speak English, start stating their rights and call their friends by mobile phone to come to the location.

The process doesn't work with a drunk who wants to argue - it just makes it more confusing. We have to make detailed notes of the conversation and caution them not to say or do anything in case it incriminates them. Each time we use a power, we have to tell the hoodlum what it is and why we are doing it. If we do decide to arrest them, we have to be so careful not to grab their arms too hard or wrestle them to the ground because it may graze their legs or rip their jeans. The thugs will allege we damaged their phones, took $50 from their wallets, swore at them, put the handcuffs on too tight.

When they get back to the police station, they complain to a supervisor, who now starts to investigate us. The whole charging process takes hours in a run down police station with computers that don't work. So we charge them with offensive language, assaulting police, resisting arrest and put them before the court A local magistrate is presiding over the matter. After 30 minutes the charges are dismissed and recommendations made that the police should be charged with assault. We are told we should expect to be sworn at, called a pig and stood over by thugs. The complaint and civil action lingers on for 18 months. The thug has got off the charges, winks his eye and smiles at me as he walks out of court.

Do you think I am going to arrest someone, come next Friday or Saturday night, with all that rubbish going on? I am going to take my time getting to the job, hope the thugs leave before I arrive and stand there and take the abuse. I hear my commanders saying we will uphold the law to the letter... but it just doesn't happen. The police out there have poor morale, equipment and training.

We aren't united as-a -team - everyone has their own agenda and we are scared. We have the weak, ambiguous powers the Government says we have to have and a judicial system that defies logic. I totally understand why young men feel they have to take the law into their own hands. I don't trust, and have very little loyalty in, the police service and the court system.

THEY'VE DONE US LIKE A DINNER - AGAIN

Why is it the mainline media is only 'wise' after the event? The latest example is Michael Costello's article in The Australian, 6 January 2006. "To laugh or to cry? That is the question. Do you laugh at the increasingly ludicrous attempts by defenders of the US-Australia Free Trade Agreement to explain away the results of the FTA's operation since it came into effect on January 1 last year? They demonstrate that, as forecast, the FTA is a winner for the US and a dud for Australia. Or do you cry for fear that those same defenders will fail the most basic test of human intelligence by refusing to learn from mistakes irrespective of the empirical evidence?"

Mr. Costello continues: "The facts are these. According to US Census Bureau figures, the first 10 months of the FTA saw Australian merchandise exports to the US falling 4 per cent. The much-vaunted access increase for our farm sector yielded little, even in dairy, where great expectations were created. The results look grim."

So what is the explanation from FTA defenders? First, that time is needed for the agreement to settle in. But "US exports grew by 4 per cent in the same period as ours declined by 4 per cent, leading to a billion-dollar increase in our trade deficit with the US over the comparable period in 2004. Clearly the US did not need a settling-in period."

Second, "that a strengthening Australian dollar over that period made our exports less competitive and US imports more competitive." But the exact opposite took place. "The average value of the Australian dollar to the US dollar in January 2005 was US.7744; in October 2005 it was US.7487, a significant weakening that made Australian exports more competitive, not less."

Third, Austrade reported the FTA "had a significant head-turning effect in both countries." Really? It may have "turned heads" but , which way? The facts are Australian exports declined!

Fourth, the Howard Government insists that the last-minute amendment to the FTA on pharmaceuticals forced on it by Labor was in substance meaningless. In the words of Trade Minister and Acting Prime Minister Mark Vaile it was 'nothing more than populist politics by Labor'." Populist politics Mr. Vaile? Wait a minute. Is there something wrong with populist politics in a democracy? I would have thought populist politics was inherent in a political democracy.

Australians are finally realising that is one other thing they do not have! They do not have a political democracy. Political parties now impose their own(?) agenda on us, no matter what. The people have less and less control over their own lives. They have little or no control over the centralist oppressive policies overwhelming them. Australians live is a sham democracy. And freedom is surely dying in the western world as John Pilger tells it.

Michael Costello finishes his article by suggesting his readers should read Global Trade and Conflicting National Interests, by Ralph Gomory and William Baumol (2001) - and weep. We suggest his readers should read Jeremy Lee's "Australia 2000: What Will We Tell Our Children" and weep even more at the ever increasing betrayal of the Australian people by their successive governments. THE GENETIC REALITY OF RACE

Readers will remember how the big guns were called out to deal with Professor Andrew Fraser's defence of the White Australia Policy. Andrew Markus, a leading multiculturalist, went on the attack in his 5 October 2005 article in The Australian, "We're All Chosen People". Central to his attack was a rejection of the reality of race, claiming variation within "racial" groups is greater than variation between groups. This argument was made in 1972 by Jewish Marxist biologist R.C. Lewontin, and used by those of smaller ilk such as S.J. Gould and R. Kamin, among others.

R.C. Lewontin's 1972 paper in Evolutionary Biology "The Apportionment of Human Diversity" (vol.6, pp.381-398) examined certain blood proteins and reached the conclusion that 90 per cent of the differences between human occurs within races - but only for such proteins. This claim was then unjustifiably generalised. Some criticism of Lewontin's approach had been made since 1972, but this year a decisive refutation has been given by Tang et al "Genetic Structure, Self-Identified Racial Ethnicity, and Confounding in Case-Control Association Studies," American Journal of Human Genetics, vol.76, 2005, pp.268-275.

A genetic cluster analysis of segments of DNA called "microsatellite markers" "produced four major clusters, which showed near-perfect correspondence with the four self-reported race/ethnicity categories." Races therefore have a genetic reality, and are not social constructs as our multiculturalists pretend. In any case, if race is a social illusion, where does that leave racial vilification laws: can an illusion be offended?

THE LOGICAL CONCLUSION OF ANTI-RACISM

Anti-racism is one of the core components of the belief system - indeed, religion - of globalism. Thou shalt not discriminate between races, ethnic groups, religious groups or groups of sexual orientation. But why stop there? Philosopher Peter Singer goes even further and extends the doctrine of anti-racism to anti-specieism. Now one should not prefer humans over other animals - well, not sexually, but morally. All species are of equal moral value and animals have rights. Singer stops animal rights at the sentient (e.g., endowed with feeling and unstructured consciousness) level but other deep ecologists go much further. The same type of animal rights argument was recently put by law professor Gary Francione in New Scientist 8 October 2005. Meat eating and meat farming is immoral. But why stop there? Surely the domain of the moral on their terms would extend to plants and ecosystems - anything capable of having interests. And with the seemingly "mental" aspect of matter in modern quantum mechanics (yes, I am getting into science in my older age) maybe even sub atomic particles have rights. So by this logic we should all starve to death! But that is absurd and the absurdity runs up the chain of reasoning to refute anti-racism itself. Anti-racism has absurd consequences, so it is absurd.

CHINA'S MILITARY AMBITIONS

Robert Elegant penned an elegant essay in the October 2005 edition of Quadrant on "China's Military Ambitions". The essay itself does not present any new arguments that have not been presented elsewhere, but given the almost total silence on the China problem in Australia's mainstream media, and indeed a kow-towing to China, a piece of criticism is welcome. Elegant says that although an actual shooting match between China and America is some time off "the world's most powerful nation and the world's most populous nation are ostentatiously preparing for such a confrontation. However, such a confrontation may be unlikely, due to the inroads Chinese manufacturing has made to the US economy, especially regarding US technology.

Faced with a war against China in the future, the US being industrially gutted, may be unable to fight it - a point made by Betty Luks some months back. On President/General Secretary Hu Jintas, Elegant says: Hu Jintas is… an unashamed racist, like most of his confreres. As governor of Tibet, he settled more than a million Han, that is, members of China's dominant race, in that alien land, which China acquired by conquest centuries ago. He sharply reduced not only the proportion of Tibetans, but their number, above all in the capital city of Lhasa."
The overwhelming majority of enterprises and shops in Lhasa are owned by Chinese entrepreneurs, a group which simply did not exist before the Chinese Liberation Army reoccupied Tibet in 1950.

The multicultural Asianist Lobby here in Australia can roast Professor Andrew Fraser for wishing that the White Australia Policy had not been treacherously abandoned, but is silent about China's genocide of Tibet. Those who rattle on about the League being some sort of giant corporation of racists never seek to address this issue in their magazines. Credibility - please!

An important new book by China theorist Paul Monk: Thunder from the Silent Zone: Rethinking China (Scribe, 2005) discusses the possibility that China may implode due to "contradictions" (as Mao would put it) in its communist party government and increasingly capitalist economy. Another scenario is a war between China and Taiwan, which involves the United States. Perhaps the conspiracy of silence on the threat of China is slowly lifting.

ASIAN COLONISATION CONTINUES

Len is disturbed to read that a visa deal struck by our seditious federal government will allow 855 million Chinese tourists access to Australia for the first time ("Chinese Tourists to Rise Under Visa Deal," Australian Financial Review, 31 October 2005, p.9). This is by means of the Approved Destination Status scheme (ADS). This makes it easy for masses of Chinese tourists to visit Australia.

Tourism Minister Fran Bailey is quoted as saying: "Within three years, the Chinese market is forecast to be our second largest in terms of its contribution to the Australian economy." No discussion here of the massive environmental effects that this number of people will bring. All that matters is the tourist fast buck - which no doubt will go to Chinese operators who will follow the Japanese road of colonisation of Oz. Tourism is an illusive foundation for a nation that is dumbed down and who makes its people whores and servants - and cleaners. "And I should know," writes Len, "because I am one of the latter, and am already a servant to the young ruling elites of Asia."

THE QUIET DEATH OF FREEDOM

On Christmas Eve, I dropped in on Brian Haw, whose hunched, pacing figure was just visible through the freezing fog. For four and a half years, Brian has camped in Parliament Square with a graphic display of photographs that show the terror and suffering imposed on Iraqi children by British policies. The effectiveness of his action was demonstrated last April when the Blair government banned any expression of opposition within a kilometre of Parliament. The High Court subsequently ruled that, because his presence preceded the ban, Brian was an exception. Day after day, night after night, season upon season, he remains a beacon, illuminating the great crime of Iraq and the cowardice of the House of Commons.

As we talked, two women brought him a Christmas meal and mulled wine. They thanked him, shook his hand and hurried on. He had never seen them before. "That's typical of the public," he said. A man in a pin-striped suit and tie emerged from the fog, carrying a small wreath. "I intend to place this at the Cenotaph and read out the names of the dead in Iraq," he said to Brian, who cautioned him: "You'll spend the night in cells, mate." We watched him stride off and lay his wreath. His head bowed, he appeared to be whispering.

Thirty years ago, I watched dissidents do something similar outside the walls of the Kremlin. As night had covered him, he was lucky. On 7 December, Maya Evans, a vegan chef aged 25, was convicted of breaching the new Serious Organised Crime and Police Act by reading aloud at the Cenotaph the names of 97 British soldiers killed in Iraq. So serious was her crime that it required 14 policemen in two vans to arrest her. She was fined and given a criminal record for the rest of her life.

Freedom is dying
Eighty-year-old John Catt served with the RAF in the Second World War. Last September, he was stopped by police in Brighton for wearing an "offensive" T-shirt, which suggested that Bush and Blair be tried for war crimes. He was arrested under the Terrorism Act and handcuffed, with his arms held behind his back. The official record of the arrest says the "purpose" of searching him was "terrorism" and the "grounds for intervention" were "carrying placard and T-shirt with anti-Blair info" (sic). He is awaiting trial.

Such cases compare with others that remain secret and beyond any form of justice: those of the foreign nationals held at Belmarsh prison, who have never been charged, let alone put on trial. They are held "on suspicion". Some of the "evidence" against them, whatever it is, the Blair government has now admitted, could have been extracted under torture at Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib. They are political prisoners in all but name. They face the prospect of being spirited out of the country into the arms of a regime which may torture them to death. Their isolated families, including children, are quietly going mad. And for what?

From 11 September 2001 to 30 September 2005, a total of 895 people were arrested in Britain under the Terrorism Act. Only 23 have been convicted of offences covered by the Act. As for real terrorists, the identity of two of the 7 July bombers, including the suspected mastermind, was known to MI5, and nothing was done. And Blair wants to give them more power.

Having helped to devastate Iraq, he is now killing freedom in his own country. A related, insidious tyranny is being imposed across the world. For all his troubles in Iraq, Bush has carried out the recommendations of a Messianic conspiracy theory called the "Project for a New American Century". Written by his ideological sponsors shortly before he came to power, it foresaw his administration as a military dictatorship behind a democratic façade: "the cavalry on a new American frontier" guided by a blend of paranoia and megalomania.

More than 700 American bases are now placed strategically in compliant countries, notably at the gateways to the sources of fossil fuels and encircling the Middle East and Central Asia. The Washington 'Crazies" "Pre-emptive" aggression is policy, including the use of nuclear weapons. The chemical warfare industry has been reinvigorated. Missile treaties have been torn up. Space has been militarised. Global warming has been embraced. The powers of the president have never been greater. The judicial system has been subverted, along with civil liberties.

The former senior CIA analyst Ray McGovern, who once prepared the White House daily briefing, told me that the authors of the PNAC and those now occupying positions of executive power used to be known in Washington as "the crazies". He said, "We should now be very worried about fascism". In his epic acceptance of the Nobel Prize in Literature on 7 December, Harold Pinter spoke of "a vast tapestry of lies, upon which we feed". He asked why "the systematic brutality, the widespread atrocities, the ruthless suppression of independent thought" of Stalinist Russia was well known in the west while American state crimes were merely "superficially recorded, let alone documented, let alone acknowledged".

A silence has reigned
Across the world, the extinction and suffering of countless human beings can be attributed to rampant American power, "but you wouldn't know it," said Pinter. "It never happened. Nothing ever happened. Even while it was happening it wasn't happening. It didn't matter. It was of no interest."

To its credit, the Guardian in London published every word of Pinter's warning. To its shame, though unsurprising, the state television broadcaster ignored it. All that Newsnight flatulence about the arts, all that recycled preening for the cameras at Booker prize-giving events, yet the BBC could not make room for Britain's greatest living dramatist, so honoured, to tell the truth. Bereft of irony, but with a snigger, the BBC newsreader Fiona Bruce introduced, as news, a Christmas propaganda film about Bush's dogs. That happened.

Now imagine Bruce reading the following: "Here is delayed news, just in. From 1945 to 2005, the United States attempted to overthrow 50 governments, many of them democracies, and to crush 30 popular movements fighting tyrannical regimes. In the process, 25 countries were bombed, causing the loss of several million lives and the despair of millions more."

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the Editor, Mail Times, Victoria: Mandy Kirsopp (letters December 23) has the right to her opinion on racial matters, but I must disagree. John Howard's pathetic attempt to appease his perception of 'world opinion' also leaves me cold. Nevertheless, Australians are not racists. See how we stood aside and watched while Cabramatta and Springvale, and latterly Glen Waverley, were taken over by the Vietnamese.

The violence we saw at Cronulla and other beaches in NSW was the direct result of two factors. The first villain of the piece is the politicians of half a century ago who first demonised and then abandoned the White Australia Policy. Multiculturalism doesn't work anywhere in the world, despite all the platitudes. Any country that accepts large numbers of unassimilable people is in for trouble. Just ask the French. The "Old Australians" at Cronulla were merely defending their patch. Pauline Hanson, whom Mandy mentions disparagingly, is vindicated. The other villain is alcohol.
