Christ's disciples in the brief three years they shared with him sought answers to the myriad matters that perplexed them
But of all the answers they sought from Christ none was more important than the simple request,
"Lord; teach us to pray". (Luke 11:1)
They had observed that to Christ prayer was indispensable.
Therefore they recognized their need for this gift if they were to emulate his discipleship.
Christ's answer was what many of us have known from our mothers' knees, the Lord's Prayer, a series of short statements embodying requests to His Father.
The Lord's Prayer, from beginning to end is a political statement, dealing with questions like power, its source, material need the continuous war against temptation and the evil forces involved in the human dama and - most importantly - the element of forgiveness, and the desire that what we build on earth will be a replica of what God has built in heaven.
The Lord's Prayer makes clear the complete political answer, which lies in looking to heaven for what we should do on earth, avoiding meanwhile the tendency to become so heavenly minded we are of no earthly use.

Familiarity

There is an old saying containing much truth. "Familiarity breeds contempt". Listen to the Speaker in our House of Representatives gabble through the Lord's Prayer to start the day's proceedings in Parliament. Something precious has been immeasurably devalued, to be hastily dispensed with so that the important business can proceed.
So often that business is the opposite to the petition in the Lord's Prayer.
One can well imagine that Christ prayed this prayer long before He gave it to his disciples.
For Him it had deep personal meaning amounting to absolute necessity.

Our Father in heaven, I hallow Your Name above all other names. I pray for the material and spiritual bread You offer Your children to sustain life in all its abundance. Keep me free from temptation, and defeat the forces of evil, that Your Kingdom may be established on earth as it is in heaven. For in You, and You alone, resides that power. Amen"

Have we become so familiar with the Lord's Prayer that we are victims of contempt?
For those who, even unknowingly, take its words lighty there must recur a rebirth that results in a new dynamic of understanding. That was Christ's answer to Nicodemus
"You, a master of Israel, knowest not these things?"

For myself after 21 years familiarity with the Lord's Prayer, it was Social Credit which supplied that dynamic bringing new life to the Prayer.
Social Credit is built upon acceptance of the elements of forgiveness, opening a path to that material and spiritual abundance, where the mystery of God's grace is the key factor.
It was a Christian priest with 25 years service as a missionary in Africa who first explained to me that God's grace is a free gift to all unearned and undeserved. Douglas had never put it in such precise terms, but I immediately saw the relevance of grace to Social Credit. There was an added dimension that, besides being unearned and undeserved, God's grace was also undiscriminating. When applied to all nations and races, the gospel of Christ fulfilled His injunction,
"go ye into all the world... ...."

It is in this understanding that Social Credit answers the cry of pain from an agonized and groaning world because the Christian Church, after 2,000 years of striving has yet to come to grips with the reality behind the gift of God's grace inherent in Social Credit.
That His prayer should become reality is the desire of Christ.
What was His answer to achieving that reality?
To pray.
"Ask and it shaft be given unto you ...."
Christ makes our task as simple as possible.

For many years four Christian Social Crediters who were also members of orthodox Christian churches
- one a Roman Catholic, two Anglicans and the other a Methodist (later Uniting) -
met faithfully once a week to pray for the Australian League of Rights its leaders and its Social Credit policies. From this quarter emerged the League Prayer, used before the start of all meetings of League members.

"Lord God Almighty, we humbly ask Thy blessing on the work of the League,
that all activities engaged in may be under the direction of Thy Holy Spirit.
To this end; we pray that we become Thy faithful and obedient servants.
In the Name of Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen."

The League has been sustained through many years of trial. The prayer has been answered and will continue to be answered even more fully as Social Crediters increase in faith to ask for even greater advances in Social Credit Christianity.

The Editor of the New Times Survey has issued a challenge. In response, this Social Crediter now meets weekly with two fellow Christians in his Church who responded to his request for support in the prayer,
"that both money and government shall become the servants of the people,
under the authority of Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen"

We pray for all those ordained in the Name of Father, Son and Holy Ghost,
that they will teach the truth about money, and how Christ would create and distribute it.

We can confidently wait on the day when all Christian leaders from the Pope and the Archbishop of Canterbury down, all their fellow bishops, priests, pastors and elders will teach that truth, and the vision of Douglas and all Christians will be fulfilled.

"And they shall sit, every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid".
