My favourite literary metaphor to depict runaway science and technology is Dr Frankenstein from Mary Shelley’s 19^th century novel. Breitbart is a bit ahead of the curve in arguing that even if the lab leak hypothesis on Covid-19’s origin is not proven, China still did much to facilitate the pandemic, and is still legally responsible for numerous acts that led to the spread. The modern Western diet is killing people, but it was not always so.
