I do not know where the term “breakthrough” cases comes from, but it is probably a way of putting on a glaze over deaths and adverse effects, post-vaccine. Usually it takes years of testing and perfection for vaccines. Is it credible to believe that vaccines can be spat out in record time, about 12 months, no legal liability for Big Pharma, then it will all go peachy cream? Is it wise to vaccinate the entire human race and hope for the best, especially with a new mRNA vaccine? What could possibly go wrong? It is a bit different for the elderly and those with various illnesses. Japan strove to protect them, rather than shutdown the entire society in panic. Lithium is need for all the electric stuff that the electric renewable economy is supposed to run on, the cars, batteries, and so on. But, there are clear environmental costs mining this element. This creates a grave dilemma for the Left, since getting the lithium will harm local communities and poison environments. That sounds like environmental racism. It’s a pretty pickle for the Left. Normal capitalism accepts that wiping out peoples and ecosystems, if not the entire planet in the long term, is just the cost of doing business, and who could really disagree with that!

And, Tolstoy is right, there is very little happiness in life in a hedonistic sense, for life is a constant struggle and battle, as Russians of all people know, and Tolstoy nailed this in War and Peace. But, fighting on delivers a sense of satisfaction that is of far more value than hedonism, even if we lose. That is the meaning of life, religious or not.
